Add my car for rent on Buzzcar.
Buzzcar, is it for me?
- You have to be owner of your car.
- Your car must be:
- less than 15 years old
- well maintained and insured
- You must follow the rules of engagement.
Have you thought about when you are away on vacation or weekends when you don't use your car? And how those 8 hours a day when your car is idle in your employer's parking lot? There are lots of times when you aren't using your car that others might want to borrow it, helping reduce your car expenses.
No! No need to empty the trunk or vacuum, but yes, it should be tidy. This is a great excuse to throw out your used coffee cups rather than letting them collect. As long as the price reflects the value of the car, you are all set.
There is one exception. While it doesn't have to be sparkling it should be safe: well maintained and inspections up to date.
None!
All you have to do is go to the web or the app and fill in the basic details about your car. Either way, you'll use the app to take 5 pictures of your car and the "carte grise". We use these for insurance, and as a record of the car's condition.
And the benefits?
The final price depends on the duration of the rental and the distance travelled. Take Paul, for example, who rented a car for 3 hours and travelled 30 miles. The car cost $4/hr and $0,20/m. Paul would pay 3 hours x $4/hr + 30m x $0,20/m = $18.
If the hourly price exceeds the daily rate, the daily rate will prevail. In other words, think about the daily as a maximum daily rate (before distance charges are applied).
Our recommended rates cover gas, insurance, Buzzcar's commission, depreciation, maintenance, and when appropriate, parking.
Our suggested price makes sure to include some well-deserved profit for you, the owner, for your efforts.
This all said, you are in charge and you can set your rates to whatever you choose. But be careful! Too high and you won't be competitive with the very real car rental alternatives. Too low and you won't be covering your own costs (remember depreciation and maintenance).
Buzzcar will deposit your money (actual price of the rental minus our commission and insurance costs) after each rental by either paypal or bank deposit.
According to the law, you have to declare the revenue like "micro-bénéfices". Buzzcar will send you an end-of-year statement of your earnings.
However, if you rent your car occasionally and it is not dedicated exclusively to car sharing, you might not need to report these earnings. It depends on the frequency, regularity and volume of the activities involved, and the final goal. As long as your earnings are less than the annual cost of your car, you should not need to declare them.
Can I really trust the system ?
Yes! We are a community, which means that we respect each other and look out for each other.
- Borrowers usually choose the same 2-3 cars that are near them. People really do treat these nearest cars as if they were their own. They are the exact sames ones they will go back to again and again (unlike car rental).
- After every rental, owners and borrowers recommend each other and leave comments. This means that all members of the Buzzcar community have a public reputation that they want to protect if they want to rent/borrow again.
- If "Paul" isn't legit, the community will call him out immediately and publicly. If he persists in his bad behavior, Buzzcar will kick him out: bees sting when you push them too far.
He'd have to be crazy!
When signing up, every member gives us their email and mailing addresses, phone and credit card numbers, a copy of their driver's license and identify card, and date of birth. Stealing a Buzzcar would be like robbing a bank and dropping your business card on the way out: it doesn't make any sense.
Of course, you can turn down any reservation request without a reason. However, once you've accepted a reservation, you have to meet this obligation. Another member of the community is counting on you.
Certainly. Cancel it from the app, under the tab "my reservations."
Be careful, if you cancel less than 24 hours before the start of the reservation, you will be charged the hourly price of the rental for inconveniencing the other member. For example, for a 2 hour reservation, that would be 2 X $/hr. The maximum penalty is $35. Fairly, this penalty applies to both owner and borrower, depending on who does the canceling.
But in any event, there is a 30 minute free-cancellation grace period after acceptance of the rental.
